Web Services are emerging as the preeminent method for program-to-program communication across corporate networks as well as the Internet. Securing web Services has been a challenge until recently, as typical Web authentication and authorization techniques employed browser-to-server architectures (not program-to-program). This resulted in user identity ending at the Web Application Server, forcing the Web Services Provider to trust blindly that the Web Services Requester had established identity and trust with the end user.

Whether the number is a minority or a majority of total sales order volume, fax often represents the bulk of a company’s order management expenses. Fax orders typically require a separate processing environment made up of fax machines or, preferably, fax server software to capture orders and distribute them among CSRs who enter the information into ERP applications.

Client virtualization technologies are redefining the way IT resources are delivered to end users, and creating exciting new opportunities for IT organizations as they work to streamline and improve operations. By abstracting applications and operating systems from client hardware, virtualization enables client assets to be stored on central servers and delivered to client endpoints. The implications are profound. End users can log on to any networkconnected computing device and access their custom operating system and application environment. For IT departments, central management of client virtual machine (VM) images brings efficiencies in everything from routine maintenance and updating to operating system upgrades.

It is very clear that datacenter managers need, in addition to server virtualization, the virtualization, pooling, and management of all the other resources that interoperate with their VMs. They require virtualized network interconnects and storage. They also need the tools to manage and automate these converged IT assets as an integrated datacenter system. This more agile system is the key to enabling the shift to a cloud-based infrastructure IT delivery model. Solution providers like HP are now addressing the need for more optimized and agile IT solutions. They are delivering virtualized storage, virtual application network (VAN) infrastructure, and the orchestration software to manage and automate all these ingredients as a single system. Read this whitepaper to learn more.

HP Cloud Solution for Microsoft is designed to provide a scalable, high-performance integrated infrastructure optimized for virtual environments built on Microsoft Hyper-V. Designed and built according to the Microsoft Private Cloud Fast Track reference architecture, HP Virtual System for Microsoft comes standard with Microsoft Windows Server 2012 (which includes Hyper-V) and is designed to deliver top performance for a wide range of virtualized applications, including Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server, and SharePoint. This paper will focus on ESG’s analysis of the costs and benefits—and ultimate economic value—associated with deploying and managing HP Cloud Solution for Microsoft, versus a comparable conventional data center infrastructure comprised of discreet, non-integrated compute, storage, network, and management components.

Mobile and virtualized workloads, cloud applications, big data, heterogeneous devices: they are all growing in your business, demanding previously unimagined capacity and performance from your servers and data center fabric. And that demand is not slacking. Your employees, applications, and competitive advantage increasingly depend on it. Those servers and applications need to be fed. And if you have not started planning for 40 gigabits per second (Gbps) to the server rack, you will need to soon.

Disaster recovery (DR) from remote sites with dedicated servers, storage, and networking gear has long been a best practice for mission-critical applications. However, other applications and data have often gone unprotected due to the costs required for redundant DR assets that are seldom, if ever, utilized. The ability to move DR to the cloud has changed the picture and enabled IT organizations to build more robust DR strategies than had been possible in the past.

Companies that hope to stay competitive in the marketplace must begin to consider alternatives to x86, or else they will find themselves at a serious infrastructure disadvantage. Performance and flexibility embedded in the architecture can scale in a way that the number of servers can’t, as applications and data grow in depth and complexity.

The risk and downtime of server migration have locked many IT teams into platforms that are no longer ideal. Migrations are often delayed or avoided—whether it’s moving data to the cloud or back on premises, or upgrading the hardware of the database software. This results in lost opportunities, unnecessary costs, and a lack of agility that today’s IT teams can no longer afford. Carbonite Move Powered by DoubleTake quickly and easily migrates physical, virtual, and cloud workloads over any distance with minimal risk and near-zero downtime. Using efficient real-time, byte-level replication technology, Carbonite Move creates a replica of the data, application, database, or entire server being migrated and keeps it in sync with the production system. The migrated data can be validated without disrupting business operations, and downtime is limited to the seconds or minutes required for cutover to the new server.

Businesses increasingly recognize that their customers and workers are engaging in ways that were inconceivable when their essential applications were first architected, according to Chris Rechtsteiner, vice president of marketing for ServerCentral. “A group in one country has to have the exact same service levels as a location in another country, and half the people are internal end users, while the other half are external customers,” he says. As their businesses have globalized, their most strategic applications have struggled to keep pace. “Companies are coming to us, asking ‘How do we do this? How do we solve this problem?’ That’s really what it comes down to.”
