As wattages increase in high-density server applications, providing redundant power becomes more challenging and costly. Traditionally, the most practical solution for distributing redundant power to 208V server racks above 5 kW has been to connect dual 3-phase rack PDUs to dual power supplies in each server. Although this approach is reliable, there is a better way. Tripp Lite has developed a patent-pending high-capacity 3-phase rack ATS specifically designed to deliver efficient, reliable redundant power to high-density clustered server environments. This White Paper will: • Explain the redundancy challenges for high-density server racks • Compare traditional dual PDU and 3-phase rack ATS redundancy setups • Outline the benefits of using a Tripp Lite 3-phase rack ATS

Server systems are, by definition, more important than individual endpoints. They must provide services to hundred, or even thousands, of endpoints and, naturally, must be secure. Traditional anti-virus (AV) solutions can provide protection for servers. However, constantly running AV processes, along with potentially frequent signature updates, can consume resources that could otherwise be used to provide application services to users. Read this evaluation by Tolly, commissioned by Lumension, as the dive into the impact on server resources of the alternative application control solution compared with traditional AV solutions from Microsoft Corp, Symantec Corp, and Trend Micro, Inc.

There are two main BlackBerry smartphone mobile connectivity options, and they are quite different. The first is the BlackBerry Internet Service, in which your mobile carrier acts as a liaison between your email and your BlackBerry smartphone. The second option is to use a BlackBerry Enterprise Server, which directly links your wireless device to your email, contacts, calendars and business applications— virtually automatically and almost instantly. If you’re using a BlackBerry smartphone solely for personal email, then a BlackBerry Internet Service account is all you need, and you can stop reading here. But if you’re a business user and are only using BlackBerry Internet Service, you’re leaving lots of important functionality unused.

In recent years, the term “cloud” has appeared seemingly everywhere. But it’s become difficult to understand what precisely someone means when they say “cloud.” The National Institute of Standards and Technology defines cloud computing as a “model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g. networks, servers, storage, applications and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction.”
