Enterprise Management Associates (EMA) has conducted extensive research investigating the integration and management challenges created by the convergence of on-premise and public Cloud hosted applications. Research conducted in mid-2012 uncovered some compelling statistics about the role of Cloud integration in today's companies: Nearly 50% of the companies surveyed have already deployed tiered transactions spanning public Cloud and on-premise computing environments (one form of "hybrid Cloud") Approximately 35% have integrated (or are in the process of integrating) multiple Software as a Service (SaaS) applications. As one IT professional put it, "Everything is connected to everything." Because of this fact, any discussionof public Cloud as a standalone technology is outmoded. Few modern on-premise applications exist as"silos," and the same is true of Cloud-delivered applications.

Application performance management (APM) focuses on monitoring, maintaining, and optimizing the performance and health of business applications across development, test, datacenter, and network environments. As mission-critical enterprise application environments become more complex because of the increased use of cloud, big data, and mobility, APM is becoming a top priority for IT teams that need to quickly and cost effectively track end-to-end application performance, identify and remediate the root cause of performance problems, and maintain service levels required by end users and business stakeholders. SaaS-delivered APM solutions offer rapid time to value for IT organizations that need to implement APM quickly with minimal disruption to the business.

Enterprises look to private clouds for more than just virtual infrastructure provisioning. Private cloud vendors have started to bundle additional capabilities into their solutions, including pervasive VM management capabilities, design tools for complex application templates, and service catalogs. Over the next 12 months, more than half of enterprises will prioritize building internal private clouds. Today, the most common approach is through the purchase of commercial software to layer atop existing infrastructure resources. Regardless of the approach you choose, there’s no shortage of tools to support your efforts.

Enterprises grapple with a host of challenges that are spurring the creation of hybrid clouds: collections of computing infrastructure spread across multiple data centers and multiple cloud providers. This new concept often provokes uncertainty, which must be addressed head on. As more applications and computing resources move to the cloud, enterprises will become more dependent on cloud vendors, whether the issue is access, hosting, management, or any number of other services. Cloud consumers want to avoid vendor lock-in—having only one cloud provider. They want to know that they will have visibility into data and systems across multiple platforms and providers. They want to be able to move servers and storage around without a negative impact on application availability. The good news is that more solutions become available every day, but with a learning curve and numerous management challenges and considerations. This CITO Research paper provides advice for managers about how to c

Software-defined architectures have transformed enterprises to become more application-centric. With application owners seeking public-cloud-like simplicity and flexibility in their own data centers, IT teams are under pressure to reduce wait times to provision applications. Legacy load balancing solutions force network architects and administrators to purchase new hardware, manually configure virtual services, and inefficiently overprovision these appliances. Simultaneously, new infrastructure choices are also enabling applications to be re-architected into autonomous microservices from monolithic or n-tier constructs. These transformations are forcing organizations to rethink load balancing strategies and application delivery controllers (ADCs) in their infrastructure.

This buyer’s guide for load balancers is based on research, best practices, and conversations with network administrators and IT operations teams at over 110 Global 2000 enterprises. It presents guidelines for choosing application services that mirror the needs of modern data centers and public cloud initiatives. The guide is organized in sections, starting with a pre-assessment of your current application delivery capabilities. With data gathered from your pre-assessment, you can review the considerations involved in creating a software-defined application services strategy; identify opportunities to improve automation of application services and operations. Finally, use the software-defined application services checklist at the end of the guide to identify key priorities in your choice of application service solutions for your enterprise.

This whitepaper explains how exploding mobile threats challenge mobile device management (MDM) vendors, carriers, service providers, and app stores to ensure the safety of apps. Consumers and customers will hold these companies responsible for providing adequate security, and employees will expect enterprise IT departments to protect them from malicious mobile apps like they have come to expect for PC malware. The report describes how a cloud-based app reputation service protects against the risks of mobile applications in the wild: • Collects millions of applications from a variety of sources • Stores mobile app data in the world’s largest cloud-based threat database • Analyzes and scores apps on a range from malicious (e.g., known malware such as Trojans or root kits) to trustworth

Enterprises are relying on WANs to carry more data than ever. With cloud computing, offsite disaster recovery and big data on the rise, it's more important than ever for IT professionals to boost application performance across the WAN. However, times are changing. Instead of deploying a physical WAN optimization appliance to improve application performance, the industry is moving to a better approach - virtual WAN acceleration software. It can be downloaded in minutes, runs almost anywhere, and controlled with the click of a mouse for maximum flexibility. In this report we not only explore the requirements for virtual WAN optimization but compare how Silver Peak's virtual WAN acceleration stacks up against Riverbed's physical Steelhead appliance.

Fact: In the next three years, 53% of CFOs estimate that over half of their enterprise transactions will be delivered through the cloud, up from the 12 percent who use that delivery mechanism today. In addition to non-core business processes like project management and email, strategic CFOs are also starting to embrace the cloud to deliver core ERP processes, including financial management, human capital management, and procurement. Rather than view the cloud just as a cost-saving platform, they recognize the strategic benefits that the cloud delivers to get critical growth initiatives up and running quickly, whether that’s using the cloud to quickly upgrade to a new application, or delivering new mobile or analytical capabilities to employees.
